Abstract

The fourth technological revolution has increased the requirement for environmental conservation and the assurance of long-term development in the modern world. Because of rising urbanization and population growth, future generations will require more building materials, food, and environmental protection. These circumstances necessitate changes in building policy towards sustainable construction (construction that reduces CO2 emissions, the quantity of natural resources consumed, and energy consumption).
At the same time, the globe has been in a worldwide catastrophe for the last four years, triggered by the problem of the pandemic COVID19. This crisis had a significant influence on the country's economy and the lives of its citizens. To address all the implications of the crisis, a National Recovery and Sustainability Plan was enacted, which places heavy demands on the construction industry, which is one of our country's largest employers. There are numerous challenging difficulties to tackle to reach the aim of transforming Bulgaria into a climate-neutral country by 2050.
This paper explores the new challenges and problems that the construction industry faces as the primary driver of the Bulgarian economy.
